Team Coast Guard Texas Notes

Justin Labonte took part in the NASCAR Busch Series Advance Program last Thursday in Texas. The program focused on the Dallas, Ft. Worth and San Antonio markets. It featured local television and radio plus an appearance and autograph session at the San Antonio vs. Dallas NBA game at the American Airlines Center.

Justin will be in attendance Wednesday night at Texas Motor Speedway’s Speedway Club when his father, Terry Labonte, is inducted into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame. Justin and his Haas CNC Racing Nextel Cup teammate Mike Bliss will celebrate Terry’s induction by carrying Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame logos on their cars this week. Bliss will run the Cup race with a Coast Guard paint scheme just like Justin’s No. 44 Shield of Freedom Chevrolet.

Friday morning Justin, Terry and Bobby Labonte will participate in the Nextel Wake-Up Call press conference. At noon Justin will meet with approximately 80 students from high schools in Ft. Worth, in a joint promotion between the Coast Guard and Texas Motor Speedway. Texas Motor Speedway is providing a hospitality tent and General Admission tickets for them to watch the action on the track.

Quoting Justin Labonte:

“This is going to be a big weekend for my family and my Busch Series sponsor, the Coast Guard. On Wednesday night we will be there for my dad’s induction into the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame. Then he and I will each be in No. 44 cars for our races. He will drive a GMAC Chevrolet with a red, white and blue paint scheme that will look a lot like the No. 44 Piedmont Airlines car he drove to the 1984 Cup Series championship. I was only three at the time but I remember that car very well. This is also the one-year anniversary of Team Coast Guard’s first race. To commemorate the sponsorship and dad going into the Hall of Fame, my Haas CNC Racing teammate Mike Bliss will run the Coast Guard colors on the No. 0 Nextel Cup car and we will have the Texas Motorsports Hall of Fame logo on both Coast Guard cars.”
